OIL AND GAS
Geo Smart Decisions Ltd applies satellite imagery analyses to support the upstream and midstream oil and gas sectors. Land cover classification using satellite imagery particular over large and remote areas is critical to plan exploration campaigns as well as potential pipeline, rail or highway routes. Geo Smart Decisions Ltd use high and very high resolution satellite imagery to provide geospatial services to these sectors.
WIND AND SOLAR
Geo Smart Decisions Ltd assists in the site suitability analyses of extensive study areas enabling clients to streamline the site identification process and quickly build their project pipelines. Using well established geoprocessing techniques in GIS, we can create bespoke suitability models using a range of spatial parameters, scored and weighted appropriately and in consultation with our clients.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT
Geo Smart Decisions Ltd work regularly with clients who propose large infrastructure and transport developments both in the UK as well as the Middle East and Africa. Using high resolution imagery and in consultation with in-country field ecologists and surveyors, land cover and habitat models are created using professional remote sensing software to create maps that show the location of sensitive areas for development.
LAND MANAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION
Understanding what vegetation is where plays a crucial role in effective land management and conversation practices. Geo Smart Decisions Ltd has worked with clients to develop models that identify areas that, with appropriate management, could serve as habitats to sensitive plants that are otherwise in decline. These methods and models use GIS and can also incorporate data gathered by UAVs and satellite imagery to build what is effectively a species distribution model.
LANDSCAPE AND PLANNING
We provide a range of services to landscape and planning professionals. These specialisms work almost entirely with spatially referenced or geospatial data and our GIS professionals are very experienced in working directly with consultants from these areas providing mapping and analytical services that enable our clients to both visualise and analyse potential impacts of proposed developments and to also provide insight into how these impacts can be mitigated for.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE
We use high resolution and multispectral satellite imagery to explore historical land management practices. Using remote sensing analysis we can use this rich source or data to better inform specialist archaeologists of the existing land features on site that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. We also produce maps using publically available cultural heritage data for use in Environmental Impact Assessments.
We provide in-house specialist services to work with large datasets whether for data management, creation, editing and assessment. We currently provide these services for one of the largest data holders of forestry data in the UK. As part of this work we can provide field surveyors who specialise in forestry applications, tree species identification and mensuration techniques to support in the management of your forestry database.
We have developed models in-house to understand the relationship between bathymetry and satellite imagery. A recent project based in the Arabian Gulf Sea used imagery from the Sentinel 2 satellite which is freely obtained and has a spatial resolution of 10 m by 10m – ideal for projects that cover extensive areas.
