CS4ESD - Erasmus +
CS4ESD (Citizen Science for Education in Sustainable Development) is a three-year Erasmus+ project that is a collaboration between schools, universities and organisations in Wales (UK), the Basque Country (Spain) and Greece. CS4ESD uses citizen-science based tools and mobile applications to equip students to engage more deeply with our natural environment and associated digital and location-based data.
GSD developed a mobile app platform to enable students and staff to create and perform field surveys using mobile phones and tablets. GSD created this app using HTML5 web technologies and performed extensive product testing. This tool has been used by students and teachers to engage with the natural environment around them including on a study tour in the Basque Country. On the study tour, GSD provided training and support to the teachers and students who were using the app and were able to demonstrate the functionality. GSD also used this opportunity to engage with the users of the app to gather feedback for further development.
Unfortunately, due to COVID19 and associated travel restrictions, not all study tours were able to go ahead, but GSD was able to provide online and video support and training for the app to be used by students in their own countries and within the respective biosphere reserves. Training materials and technical documentation were also produced to enable the app to be used by other organisations after the end of the project.
